Print barcode labels yourself – how-to

Whether for shelves, shipping or stocktaking – barcode labels can be produced with an ordinary printer. This guide shows how to print A4 label sheets cleanly and avoid common mistakes.

Choosing label sheets

Common A4 sheets (e.g. Avery layouts) have fixed grids such as 3×8 or 4×10 labels. Use the label generator to set your grid and place the codes precisely.

Resolution & format

Print at 300 dpi or more. For crisp edges, vector output (PDF/SVG) is best – bars stay sharp even when scaled.

Alignment & margins

Disable “fit to page” in the print dialog and print at 100 % size, otherwise the grid shifts. A test print on plain paper held over an empty label sheet reveals any offset immediately.

Barcode type & size

For internal labels, Code 128 (compact) or QR codes (lots of data) work well. Respect minimum size and quiet zone – see barcode size & quiet zone.
